KTL Painting

Surface Treatments

KTL Painting (Cataphoretic painting, cathodic dipping and vat surface treatment, electrophoretic painting, cathodic painting, E-Coat)

As part of KTL technology, electrochemical processes can be applied in order to separate elements of the paint. Physically speaking, any paint particles with unlike charge (+ or -) attract each other. During the painting procedure, the work-piece will be dipped into a water-based paint medium and a direct current will be passed through it. The work-piece attracts the paint to itself resulting in a uniform coating being left on its surface. Owing to the nature of this process, the paint also evenly penetrates the awkward nooks and cracks of the product to be treated. By a continuous increasing of the layer thickness the paint coat already carries out an isolating function, automatically closing the last surface treatment process. This is just like the surface protection process applied primarily in the automobile industry on plate and cast parts.

Pre-treatments selectable prior to KTL painting

This involves the coating of metal parts with iron, zinc, zirconium- phosphate and nanoceramic material. These chemicals are made by Henkel and Metalchem.

We run a 15-zone, computer-controlled dipping technology.

Useful dimensions:

  • length: 2300 mm
  • width: 500 mm
  • height: 850 mm
  • load capacity: 700 kg

We work with PPG paints and apply it using the dipping procedure. The paint is of black colour, with silk glaze. The baking is performed at a temperature of 155°C. The layer thickness can be selected from 10 to 40 microns.

The coating offers high corrosion protection. Depending on the paint type the brine resistance of the coating is approx. triple that of any coating separated and applied by anaphoresis.

The cataphoretic paints have a high penetration ability, which allows a highly satisfactory surface treatment and protection in the case of chambered, split base surfaces.

From the aspect of environment protection it has a lower emission load, the paint bath has an organic solvent content of 2.5% to 3%.

KTL painting procedures provide efficient and long-lasting corrosion protection with high heat resistance and excellent chemical stability.

KTL painting is an environmentally friendly coating method, by which water is regularly used as a solvent. It is perfectly suitable for any surface treatment performed with automatic technology and it conforms to the strict provisions of the automobile industry.

KTL-coated surfaces provide the best basis for combinations established with powder coating or conventional painting. The KTL painting process can also be used to apply double coatings onto galvanic zinc layers. Then the KTL painting can be painted over with powder-paints, water-based paints or solvent-based paints and 2-pack paints.
